Can I just vent for a minute?
First let me say that I love Varagesale, it's easily one of my favorite online places (and stores) to peruse. If you've never been there check it out and see if they have a community for your area. I've lost count of the number of things I've bought on there and I have been pleased by 95% of the purchases I'v made and how the transaction was handled and completed by the seller.
But then there are some sellers that really, stinkin, irritate me. Like seriously. These few weeds hiding among the really awesome people are like the pebble in the shoe of a really smoking outfit. So here I present my little list of shameful sellers.
1.) The "No-sell" seller.
This is the seller who once contacted about their item quickly replies and seems super friendly and eager to make contact for the sale. But then something happens and they cancel. So another meet is established. Something comes up again. And again. And then days and days goes by before they reply to your inquiry (even though you can tell they've seen the message) and they are vague about setting up a meet. They dilly dally, won't directly answer a question and just generally don't really seem like they are all that interested in selling their item at all. Why put it up for sale if you don't actually have any interest in trying to sell it?!
2.) The "I'll sell in your community but no I really won't" seller.
This is a spin off of the above seller. This person doesn't live in your community but has their items listed in your community. You click interested on one of their lovely items and inquire about meeting within the boundaries and they reply that yeah, they totally do that! But not really. You can keep asking when they'll be coming to the area next so you can buy this awesome item they're selling and if they answer at all it'll be vague and iffy. They assure you they like really truly want to sell to you, but they say in a roundabout way that getting inside the boundaries is like, hard man, and has to have more purpose then just selling this one item even though they chose to list it in a community they very rarely ever go to. Then if some miracle happens and they are coming and can meet, they tell you either a few hours before, (maybe a day if lucky), and you have to try to rush to get your own situation worked out so you can meet, or you miss them again because you didn't have enough warning to arrange anything. (Or for extra level irritation, you reply that yes! you can meet! when and where! and they never reply til after they have already come and gone.)
3.) The "Hurry hurry!" seller.
This is the one who imagines everyone must have their eyes glued to varagesale and their fingers glued to the keyboard. You click interested, send a message and walk away from the computer (gasp!). They reply and sit there tapping their foot and fidgeting while alarm bells ring in their ears louder and louder every second that goes by and you don't answer them back and oh that must mean that you weren't really interested or you lost interest in the 2 minutes since you clicked the button and they can't just sit here all day waiting on you to answer them to arrange a meet up so fine they will just go ahead and message the next person who clicked that button and look they messaged back and now they reserve it for them!!! Aaaandddd... it's only been five minutes so after changing your kids diaper you look back at the screen and see that after not giving you nearly enough time to respond to them the seller skipped you and moved on to the next interested person.
4.) The "Set it up and forget it" seller.
This is the one who signs up, sets their items up for sale (and some great stuff too!) and then promptly logs out and never, ever returns. Messages never get answered or even seen, nothing ever sells, the items just sit there, clogging up the page and haunting it with their tantalizing available status that will never ever change.
5.) The "Status button? What status button?" seller.
These people sell there items regularly, maybe they are even great to deal with, friendly and prompt with meet up. But they never update the status. Ever. Items either forever say available or are forever stuck in the 'Reserved' limbo. Mentions about updating the status are met with a blank look.
6.) The "Everything I sell is gold" seller.
These people think way too highly of their items and the ridiculous over the top price reflects that. They are not willing to negotiate (and seem offended if you even suggest it) and the idea behind the name of this site seems to go right over their head. Or maybe they just think people are too stupid to know the real worth of something (and are incapable of research on google) so they really believe they can mark up something 3x its worth and think people will pay. If it's the first, well, I wish I had their optimism, everything must look real pretty to them. If it's the second, they are terrible people.
Alright, that's all I've got for now, I hope some people found it amusing and if your a seller on varagesale that you didn't recognize yourself in any of them! (If you did, you should totally work on that.) I'd love to hear what are some things that irritate you about sellers/buyers! I'm mainly a buyer, I haven't sold nearly enough things to have a list of irritating buyers yet, but I'd love to hear your experiences! Thanks for reading!
